Skin Texture & Pores
Pores look wider than they used to.
Rough, grainy texture shows across the cheeks and beside the nose, and large pores on the face sit wider open than they did a few years ago. Pore size is largely inherited, and oil keeps the openings filled. Years of sun then thin the collagen that supports them. Each of those is treated at a different depth.

CONCERN & CAUSES
Where Rough Skin Starts to Show
Enlarged pores and rough texture usually arrive together. Pore size is largely inherited, and oilier skin reads larger. Sun damage thins the collagen collar around each opening, and cell turnover slows with age. Which cause leads sets the depth treated.
01
Enlarged Pores
You inherit your pore size, and oilier skin reads larger from the start. Years of sun then break down the small collar of collagen holding each opening in shape, so pores that once sat tight now stay stretched open.
02
Orange-Peel Texture
A fine dimpled pattern across the cheeks and beside the nose, where pores sit closest together. Under raking light it shows as a faint unevenness, and it is what makes skin look dull even when the tone underneath is even.
03
Rough and Congested Patches
Patches that feel grainy under your fingertips, most often along the forehead, chin and jawline where congestion keeps returning. Cell turnover slows as you age, so dead cells sit on the surface longer and scatter the light that used to bounce off cleanly.
04
Stretched or Dilated Pores
On the nose, cheeks and chin, pores look like small round openings that no longer tighten back after you cleanse or mask. Repeated congestion stretches the walls, and the collagen that once held them closed has thinned, so they stay open all day.
Treatment Benefits
Treatments That Refine Texture Where It Starts
Vivace RF microneedling comes first, rebuilding the collagen that supports each pore and thickening the skin around it. A chemical peel follows at a later visit to clear the congested surface layer above it, and the spacing between the two is set at your consultation. Catherine Curtin, MSN, FNP-C, has nearly 20 years in aesthetic medicine.

RF Microneedling
Fine microneedles paired with radiofrequency energy, delivered into the deeper layer of the skin so fresh collagen and elastin form around each pore and through the whole treated area.

Microneedling with PRP
Microneedling finished with your own platelet-rich plasma, drawn from your arm that morning and spun down at the office, then laid over the channels the needles open.

Chemical Peels
A professional peel that releases the built-up surface layer so newer, smoother skin can come up underneath it.
Keeping Your Results Between Visits After Treatment
Texture is a surface that is always being rebuilt. Oil keeps filling the openings and cell turnover keeps slowing, so what you do at home decides how much of the refinement is still there when you come back.

SkinBetter Science Retinoid
A retinoid formulated so turnover stays steady while the skin holds its hydration. It keeps the surface refining between visits, softening grain and stopping dead cells from collecting in the opening where they widen a pore.

FAQ
Common Questions About
Skin Texture Treatment
Pore size is largely genetic, so the opening itself will not be made smaller than the one you inherited. How large pores on the face look can still improve, through oil control, clearing the debris packed inside the opening and rebuilding the collagen that supports it.
Smoother texture builds over a series of treatments, and one visit rarely changes it far. The number depends on the cause: congestion and slowed cell turnover respond to peels sooner than lost collagen responds to Vivace RF microneedling. The sessions and the weeks between them are set at your consultation.
Standard microneedling opens tiny channels that trigger collagen at the depth of the needle. Vivace adds radiofrequency energy at that same depth, heating the deeper layer where collagen and elastin are made. Which approach suits your skin, and how many sessions it takes, is set at your consultation.
Reactive skin takes the slower route. Treatment starts with lighter chemical peels and careful home care, and Vivace RF microneedling comes later, once the barrier can take it. At the Bronxville and Bridgehampton offices alike, how your skin responded is reviewed at each visit before the treatment level is raised.
A light peel usually means mild flaking for a few days, and a deeper one can shed visibly for most of a week. Microneedling and Vivace RF leave skin pink and slightly tight for a short stretch afterward. Texture work is visible while it heals, so it is timed around your week.
They lift the plug out of the top of a clogged pore, which removes surface debris and leaves the walls of the opening exactly as wide as they were. The pore fills back in within days.
The collagen you rebuild does not vanish on you. What keeps going is ordinary wear from sun, time and expression. Many patients across Bronxville and Bridgehampton come back once or twice a year for maintenance and keep a simple routine going at home.
Microneedling is $400. Combined with PRP or exosomes it runs $200 to $500 more, depending on what is added. Peels and Vivace RF are quoted once your skin has been seen and the number of sessions is known. Your consultation is complimentary, with no deposit taken to book it.
Come with clean skin if you can, or be ready to take your makeup off, so your texture and pores can be read directly. Bring a photo or a short list of what you are using now and any treatments you have had. The more Catherine sees, the more precise the plan.
Good products earn their place. A salicylic acid serum gets inside a clogged pore and dissolves the sebum and dead cells packing it out, so blackheads clear and the opening looks narrower. A retinoid keeps that from building back. What none of them reach is the collagen loss underneath, which is where most of the width comes from, and that is the part treated at the office.
