01

What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable gel-like substances used to replace facial volume that has diminished with age or weight loss. The products used at Beauty and Fly are hyaluronic acid fillers: Restylane-L, Restylane Lyft, RHA Redensity, RHA 2, RHA 3 and RHA Dynamic Volume. The gel is injected under the surface of the skin to fill areas lacking volume or shape, so the tissue above it sits higher and a crease folds less deeply. Contour is visible the day of the appointment, and the shape softens over the following weeks as swelling resolves and the gel integrates with your own tissue. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase. A result in a structural area such as the chin or jawline often lasts a year or more, while a lip result wears off sooner, because the lips move all day.

Dermal Fillers at Beauty and Fly

Filler injections at the Bronxville and Bridgehampton offices are placed by Catherine Curtin, MSN, FNP-C. Proportion and bone structure are mapped before a product is chosen, support is rebuilt in the mid-face before the lower face is touched, and a smaller amount is placed at the first appointment and reviewed once swelling has resolved.

03

Are Dermal Fillers Right for You?

  • Dermal fillers suit adults with volume loss across the cheeks and mid-face, lips that have thinned or flattened, a short chin, a blurred jawline, or an under-eye hollow where the skin and anatomy support treatment.

  • They address flattened cheeks, lip shape and volume, chin projection, the line from chin to ear, the folds beside the nose and mouth, and the shadow cast by an under-eye hollow.

  • Filler is not given during pregnancy or breastfeeding, over an active infection or inflamed skin at the site, or where there is a known sensitivity to hyaluronic acid.

04

What Are the Benefits of Dermal Fillers?

Volume returns to regions that have gone hollow or flat, and the face looks softer and more rested. Creases beside the nose and mouth ease once the cheek above them carries weight again, the lower face balances when the chin and jawline are rebuilt, and lips keep their own border. Contour shows the day of the appointment and most people go back to their day afterward, with puffiness at the injection points for a few days and the occasional small bruise. Because the products are hyaluronic acid, the result can be dissolved if anything needs reversing. Each syringe runs $750 to $900, and how many syringes your plan needs is confirmed at the examination. Consultations are complimentary and there is no deposit.

Where Filler Works Best

Lip Shape and Volume

Lip Shape and Volume

Restylane lip enhancement restores softness and definition along the lip border. Shape and proportion to the rest of your face are assessed before any filler is chosen.

Treatments+

Lips take fractions of a syringe. Small amounts are placed along the border and body of the lip, then checked at a follow-up once any puffiness has gone.

Causes+

Lips thin as collagen and your own hyaluronic acid decline. The upper lip lengthens too, which flattens the mouth and lets lipstick creep into the lines above it.

Reading a Whole Face Before Choosing a Site

How Catherine Works

Reading a Whole Face Before Choosing a Site

Catherine Curtin, MSN, FNP-C, has nearly 20 years of experience with aesthetic injectables. Filler choice differs by area: soft gels under the eye and at the lip, firmer products along the jaw and over the cheekbone, matched to how much support each site needs.

Hyaluronic acid filler such as Restylane or RHA replaces volume on the day and can be dissolved. A collagen stimulator like Sculptra works slowly, building your own collagen over months, and suits diffuse loss across a whole cheek. Catherine chooses between them based on where the volume was lost and how much structure the area needs.

Proportion and bone structure are mapped before anything else, because an area treated in isolation often throws another part of the face out of balance. The cheek, chin and jawline are assessed together.

Most of what bothers people in the lower face began higher up, where support dropped away. Filling the crease directly adds weight to tissue that is already sitting too low. Catherine rebuilds support in the cheek first, then reviews the fold at a follow-up visit before deciding whether it needs anything more.

FAQ

Filler Questions Patients Ask Most

Direct answers to what patients ask before their first filler appointment, so nothing is a surprise once you are in the chair.

Dermal fillers are injectable gels made of hyaluronic acid, a sugar molecule your body already produces to hold water in the skin. Injected under the surface, the gel replaces volume that has been lost and supports the tissue above it. Your body breaks it down gradually, and the filler used in each area is chosen at your consultation.

Dermal filler is $750 to $900 per syringe. The total depends on how many areas are treated and how much volume has been lost. Your consultation is complimentary and there is no deposit, and you leave with the plan for each area and the price range confirmed.

Often a year or more, though it varies with the area and how quickly your body breaks the product down. Lips move all day, so they tend to fade first. Chin and jawline usually hold longest. Catherine sets your next visit by how your own result is holding.

Yes. Hyaluronic acid filler dissolves with an enzyme called hyaluronidase. The rare serious complication is vascular occlusion, where product presses on or enters a blood vessel. A cannula is used through the zones where vessels run close to lower that risk.

Most people find it very manageable. Catherine numbs topically first and gives it time to take hold, and the fillers themselves carry lidocaine. Expect pressure and a few brief pinches. Lips are the busiest area and are still tolerated well.

Filler is an in-office treatment, and the appointment itself is short. Swelling and tenderness at the injection points resolve over the first few days, and a small bruise is possible. Downtime is minimal, and touch-ups maintain the result over time.

Overfilling is the worry most filler patients bring in. A small amount is placed at the first appointment, and the result is checked at a follow-up once swelling has gone, when more can be added if an area needs it.

Catherine does not treat during pregnancy or breastfeeding, over an active infection or inflamed skin at the site, or where there is a known sensitivity to hyaluronic acid. The consultation covers whether filler suits you now and what the plan would be.

Lips, cheeks and mid-face, plus the chin and jawline. Catherine treats the tear trough when the anatomy allows, and the folds beside the mouth usually by supporting the cheek above them. Several areas can be sequenced into one plan across two visits.
