Botox Aftercare

What not to do after Botox is a short list. For four hours, stay upright and keep your hands off the injected points. For 24 hours, skip hard training, saunas and hot tubs. Facials wait until after the two-week check, and work or driving that afternoon is fine.

Botox Aftercare

What to Avoid After Botox

For the first few hours the product is still binding to the muscle it was dosed into, and the tissue around each point is mildly inflamed. Firm pressure can move product into nearby muscle, and heat or fast blood flow makes bruising and swelling more obvious. The rules below cover those hours.

Pressure on the Treated Points

Firm pressure over a fresh injection can move product away from the chosen point and blur a pattern worked out during the consultation. It also adds irritation the area does not need.

Lying Flat or Face Down

Going straight to bed or lying face down changes how the product distributes while it is still binding to the muscle it was dosed into.

Strenuous Workouts Right Away

Hard training raises your heart rate and your body heat at the exact moment the injection points are still fresh. Bruising and swelling both show up more readily.

Heat, Steam and Strong Sun

A sauna or a hot tub on treatment day turns the mild puffiness around each injection point into something that lingers, and any redness sits at the surface for longer.

Facials Booked Too Close Behind

A facial massage presses and pulls on skin where product is still finding its place. So does a device head passing over the same area, and both can blur what was placed.

Botox Results Timeline

A little redness, tenderness, swelling, or bruising around an injection site can happen and is usually temporary. Results begin to appear gradually, so give your treatment time to take full effect.

Immediate Changes. Treatment day · the first hours

Pinprick marks and a little redness at the injected points are what you see on the day. The muscles have not relaxed yet, so the lines look the same as they did when you came in. The written list covers the hours that follow.

Muscles Begin to Respond. Days after · the line eases

Over the following days the muscles begin to relax. The line softens, and makeup stops sinking into it. Some patients feel a passing tightness across the area, which eases as the result comes in.

Your True Result, Weeks 2 to 4. Weeks 2 to 4 · full result

By around the two-week mark you are seeing your true result, and your expression still feels like you. At that visit Catherine checks what the first days produced: whether the softening came in evenly on both sides, and whether the instructions you went home with did their job.

Aftercare Built From Your Own Map

Your aftercare list is written from the points that were injected, so the rules after a forehead dose differ from those after an underarm or a masseter. Points that bruise easily are flagged before you leave, and the list stays short.

Your Botox Visit, Start to Follow-Up

From the first conversation through the weeks it takes your result to arrive, you know what is coming and what your part in it is.

Consultation and Mapping

Catherine asks what bothers you and what worries you about the days afterward. Then she works out your dose and, from the mapped points, which ones tend to bruise and what that means for your week. All of it is decided before you sit back in the chair.

  • Which points on your face bruise most easily
  • The four hours that need protecting
  • What is already booked in your week ahead

Precise Injection

You sit back while Catherine works through the mapped points one at a time. Before you stand up she shows you which points to keep your hands off and for how long. She talks you through each point as it is placed.

  • Each placement made to the mapped point
  • Small amounts, each to a mapped point
  • Enough movement left that you still look like you

Post-treatment

The written list covers the points that were injected: four hours upright with your hands off those points, and 24 hours before heat or hard training. Facials and peels go in after the two-week check, once the product has bound where it was placed.

  • Driving and work are both fine that afternoon
  • Upright, with hands off the treated points
  • The change arrives over the next two weeks

The Two-Week Check-In

Between now and the two-week visit, call about anything you notice. Catherine will confirm whether it is the ordinary pattern for the areas treated or whether she wants to see you sooner.

  • A check-in once your result has taken full effect
  • Catherine sees how your muscles answered the dose
  • A small addition where a line still shows

Keeping Results Steady

Botox fades gradually, so your return is planned before the lines are fully back. At each visit the aftercare is refreshed so it stays familiar, and the dose is adjusted to what was learned last time.

  • The effect fades off gradually
  • Timed before your lines return
  • Dose and placement adjusted each visit

How Your Aftercare List Is Written

Catherine Curtin, MSN, FNP-C, has injected for nearly 20 years. The aftercare list covers the first four hours and the first day, when pressure and heat can still move product or raise a bruise. At the two-week visit the softening is checked on both sides, and units are added where a line still shows.

What goes on your aftercare list

The list is short and covers only the first four hours and the first day after treatment. Facials are the one item that waits longer, until after the two-week check.

What each rule protects

Staying upright with hands off the points keeps the dose in the muscle it was mapped to. Leaving heat and hard training until the next day keeps bruising and early swelling down.

Why your list is written after treatment

Which rules matter depends on which points were used and how hard those muscles work. Your list is written after your treatment, from the points injected, so two patients leaving on the same afternoon can go home with different lists.

Why Botox Aftercare Differs From Patient to Patient

Aftercare is written for the areas that were injected. The dose and the rules that follow are explained at a complimentary consultation, with no deposit.

Anatomy-Led Planning

Catherine maps how your muscles move at rest and with expression, then places each unit against that pattern. The aftercare comes from the same map, so the instructions are specific to you.

Soft, Natural Results

Doses are kept measured so a line softens while your brow still moves. The aftercare protects that result by keeping pressure and heat off the injected points while the product binds where it was placed.

Ongoing Support

Aftercare questions are taken by phone in the first days after treatment. They are passed to Catherine, who checks what you describe against the areas treated and brings you in early if needed.

Keeping Your Botox on Schedule

Botox holds its result best when it comes back before the lines do. At your complimentary consultation, with no deposit, Catherine looks at how you are treating your skin between visits and how often you realistically come in. Neuromodulators are $15.50 per unit. Members pay less per unit; the figures are on the Beauty Bank page.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I avoid in the 24 hours after Botox?+

For four hours, stay upright with your hands off the injected points. For 24 hours, skip hard training and anything that heats you through, a sauna included. Facials wait until after your two-week check. Everything else about your day carries on as normal.

When can you exercise after Botox?+

Wait until the next day for anything strenuous. Heat and fast blood flow through fresh injection points make bruising easier. A walk that afternoon is fine. Build back the day after, easy cardio before hot yoga. Tell Catherine if you train hard and the appointment can be timed around it.

Should I avoid alcohol around my Botox appointment?+

Skip alcohol the day before and the day of, since it makes bruising easier. Catherine also asks you to pause aspirin, ibuprofen and fish oil or similar supplements for a few days beforehand. Prescription medication is different. Never stop it on your own, and tell her what you take so she can plan around it.

Can I wash my face after Botox?+

Yes, gently. Lukewarm water and a light hand on day one, with no scrubbing over the injected points. Cleansing brushes and rollers stay off those areas for a few days, and your retinoid goes back on after two or three days. SkinBetter Science retinoids and barrier creams are in stock if yours needs replacing.

Can I wear makeup after Botox?+

Usually later the same day, with a light touch. Pat it on and keep firm rubbing away from the injection points. If you have something in the calendar soon after, tell Catherine when you book and she will advise on timing for the areas being treated.

Can I shower or take a bath after Botox?+

Shower whenever you like, as long as the water is not steaming and you are not pressing on the treated areas. The hot bath and the hot tub wait a day, because heat makes early swelling more obvious. Keep it warm and short on day one.

Is it true you cannot lie down after Botox?+

Partly. You do not need to stay standing all day, but do not lie flat or nap face down for the first few hours. That window is when the product binds where it was placed. After that, sleep however you normally do.

Can I have a facial after Botox?+

Wait until after your two-week check before any treatment that presses or pulls on those areas. A facial massage counts, and so does a peel. By then the product has bound and pressure will not shift it. Have a facial booked already? Tell Catherine at your consultation and the Botox can be worked around it.

What is normal to feel after Botox?+

Mild redness and small bumps at the points are ordinary in the first days, and so is a light tight feeling as the muscles begin to relax. All of it passes on its own. If what you are seeing does not match what was described at the visit, call and Catherine will advise whether she needs to see you.

When should I call Catherine after Botox?+

Call if something looks uneven, changes suddenly or simply worries you. Catherine would like to hear from you early. Every patient leaves knowing what is expected for their own treatment and exactly how to reach her if it does not match. If you experience difficulty swallowing, speaking, or breathing, generalized muscle weakness, double or blurred vision, or other concerning symptoms following treatment, seek medical attention right away.
