NOUVAderm and CoolPeel, two resurfacing choices

CoolPeel is a CO2 laser treatment offered at some practices. NOUVAderm is the fractional resurfacing laser Catherine uses. Which is right for you is a decision about your skin, made in person.

Same goal, small differences

CoolPeel is a CO2 resurfacing treatment offered at some practices. There is no CoolPeel here. The laser used is NOUVAderm, and it answers the same complaints people bring to CoolPeel: sun spots, fine lines and skin that has stopped feeling smooth.

Where the two really differ for you is how many visits it takes. A light pass, whichever device delivers it, builds change gradually, so expect a course of sessions before sun damage looks properly lifted. The number is confirmed at your consultation.

How they compare compare

NOUVAderm is the laser used in both Bronxville and Bridgehampton. CoolPeel is not offered, so what follows is what each device is used for. When skin has lost tone more than texture, Vivace RF microneedling is Catherine's choice.

CoolPeel stays light by design. NOUVAderm is the resurfacing laser used here, and each session is built around the skin being treated. Vivace RF works through needles and radiofrequency, so it firms from underneath and leaves the surface intact.

What to expect after either one

Warmth and redness come first, then several days where skin feels dry, tight and slightly rough as the surface renews. Day three is usually the roughest of it. Sunscreen afterward is not negotiable.

Occasionally skin stays pink longer than planned, or a treated patch darkens for a while before it evens out again. Richer skin tones need a more careful approach, and a history of cold sores is the one that most often changes the approach. In that case treatment happens only once the area is clear and you are covered with antiviral medication first. Catherine goes through your medication list with you. If a peel suits your skin better this month, Catherine starts with a peel.

The hand on the laser matters more than the device

A light CoolPeel session suits someone who wants brighter skin and almost no visible recovery. The concerns treated with NOUVAderm are the same ones people bring to CoolPeel: fine lines, sun damage, roughened texture. Skin that has gone slack is a job for Vivace RF.

Catherine Curtin, MSN, FNP-C, brings nearly 20 years in aesthetic practice to this choice of device. She has watched devices arrive, get marketed hard, then disappear. NOUVAderm is the laser she chose for the Bronxville and Bridgehampton offices.

Not sure which you need? Catherine decides.

Comparing devices is Catherine's job. Bring the skin and the question, and she will tell you what she would do with it, including when the answer is a peel or nothing at all this month. Consultations are complimentary, with no deposit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a cool peel CO2 laser better than other CO2 lasers?+

No CO2 laser is automatically better. CoolPeel is one way of running a CO2 laser light so recovery stays short, and a light pass belongs in plenty of sensible resurfacing plans. There is no CoolPeel here. The laser is NOUVAderm, and its settings are decided after reading your skin.

What is the difference between CoolPeel and NOUVAderm?+

They are separate devices doing similar work on fine lines, sun damage and rough texture. CoolPeel is one light-setting approach to CO2 resurfacing. NOUVAderm is the laser Catherine owns, and she sets it after reading your skin. How many visits yours takes is confirmed at your consultation.

Does CoolPeel have less downtime than NOUVAderm?+

CoolPeel is built around brief downtime, so the redness fades quickly. What to expect from a NOUVAderm session is explained before you book it, and if the week ahead cannot absorb any recovery, the session can move to a better week.

Which laser do you use at Beauty and Fly?+

The NOUVAderm fractional resurfacing laser. Catherine is the one holding it at every appointment, and it is the same laser treatment whether you are seen in Bronxville or in Bridgehampton. Your skin is read first, then the session is decided.

Can NOUVAderm be done as a light treatment?+

Yes. A lighter session is available, and a lighter one asks less of your week. The trade is that the change builds gradually, so plan on a course of visits with it. Catherine decides the settings once she has looked at your skin, and tells you which way she is going and why.

Can you switch to NOUVAderm after a cool peel elsewhere?+

Yes, and bring the details. When you were treated, how your skin behaved afterward, and how long the result held all tell Catherine something that would otherwise take a session to learn. Skin needs to be fully recovered from the last treatment before the next one goes ahead.
