Botox

  • •10-15 Minute Injections
  • •Lines begin softening in days
  • •Holds 3 to 4 months
  • •Little to no downtime

Forehead lines, frown lines and crow's feet start as movement and end up as creases at rest. Botox is a prescription injectable that relaxes the muscle doing that folding, so the skin above it stops creasing. Dosing keeps enough movement for normal expression.

01

What Are Neuromodulators?

Neuromodulators are injectable solutions that diminish moderate to severe frown lines, horizontal forehead lines, crow's feet and many additional areas on the face and body. At Beauty and Fly, aesthetic nurse practitioner Catherine Curtin offers BOTOX, Dysport, and Daxxify, which are injectables composed of the neurotoxin type A botulinum toxin used to freeze particular muscles in your facial area temporarily. When these muscle groups are relaxed, the common contractions that lead to dynamic wrinkles will be halted, and movement lines soften while the result lasts. This enables you to smile or frown without causing dynamic lines.

02

Botox at Beauty and Fly

Every injection at Beauty and Fly is placed by Catherine Curtin, MSN, FNP-C, in Bronxville and Bridgehampton. She stocks Botox, Dysport, and Daxxify, places a conservative dose first, and adjusts at the follow-up once the full effect has appeared.

03

Are Neuromodulators Right for You?

  • At Beauty and Fly, candidates for neuromodulators are individuals seeking nonsurgical solutions for cosmetic concerns. Neuromodulators are ideal for those looking to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and crow's feet.

  • The treatment is suitable for both men and women in Bronxville and Bridgehampton, NY who desire a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance.

  • Myasthenia gravis, Lambert-Eaton syndrome, ALS, and other neuromuscular disorders call for medical evaluation first, and pregnancy and breastfeeding are contraindicated.

04

What Are the Benefits of Neuromodulators?

Cosmetically, Botox softens frown lines, forehead rows, and crow's feet, and with careful placement it can lift the brow or relax a gummy smile. TMJ-related jaw clenching, chronic migraine, and excessive underarm sweating are treated at both locations. Botox is $15.50 per unit; Beauty Bank members pay less (see the Beauty Bank page). Consultations are complimentary and there is no deposit.

Where Botox Can Help

Where Botox Is Used

Upper Face Lines That Stay

Upper Face Lines That Stay

Forehead lines, crow's feet, frown lines, and bunny lines all start out as movement and end up as marks that sit there at rest. Botox softens these dynamic wrinkles and slows how fast they etch themselves in for good.

Treatments+

The muscle making each specific line is treated: the frontalis for the band across your forehead, the glabellar group for the 11s between your brows. The crease releases while the rest of your upper face keeps working.

Causes+

The frontalis, the glabellar group and the orbicularis oculi contract each time you raise your brows, frown or squint. The skin over them creases in the same place, and in time that crease stays visible at rest.

Treatment Day

Treatment day · back to your day

The injecting itself is short, and the small marks at each point fade within about half an hour. You can return to your normal routine right away. Stay upright for four hours with hands off the injected points, and avoid heat and hard training for 24 hours.

Early Softening

Days 3-10 · the muscle lets go

Softening usually begins within the first few days as the treated muscle relaxes, and the full effect is there at about ten days. Onset varies with the area treated and the product used. The follow-up visit comes at about two weeks, once the result is complete.

Full Effect

Weeks 8-12 · the hold period

The treated lines stay soft for about three to four months while your brows and your smile still move. Exercise, makeup and sun exposure carry on as normal. Movement returns gradually, and the next visit is timed from when your own result starts to fade.

How Your Dose and Product Are Decided

Dosing and Technique

How Your Dose and Product Are Decided

Catherine Curtin, MSN, FNP-C was a national trainer for the Allergan Medical Institute. Unit counts follow the strength of each muscle treated, the areas it moves, and how much expression you want left in the forehead and the brow.

The product follows the area and how your muscle answered the previous round. Dysport spreads further from each point, which suits a wide forehead. Botox and Daxxify hold closer to where they are placed, so they are used near the brow and the lower lid.

Forehead injections sit high in the frontalis and stay shallow. Product placed near the lower edge of that muscle can reach the fibers that hold the upper lid, so injections are kept well above the brow.

A first dose is kept conservative, because how your muscle answers has not been measured yet. At the follow-up, units are added to any area that is still folding. That adds one appointment to a first course of treatment and keeps a first result from reading heavy.

Treatment Process

How Do Neuromodulator Treatments Work?

Treatment runs in four stages: the consultation that sets product and areas, the injection visit, the first day of aftercare, and a follow-up once the full effect has arrived.

Step 01 · Your consult

Consultation and Facial Assessment

At the Bronxville or Bridgehampton, NY office, Catherine reviews which neuromodulator suits your goals, then asks you to make several upper-face expressions to show where each injection should sit.

FAQ

Botox Questions Patients Ask Every Week

Direct answers to the questions patients ask most about Botox, so you can judge whether this approach is the one you want.

Botulinum toxin has decades of medical and cosmetic use behind it, in trained hands. The health history and medication review come before any recommendation, and the dose is conservative. Anyone pregnant or breastfeeding should wait.

It depends on the height of your forehead, how strong the muscle is, and how much movement you want left in it. The assessment watches you raise your brows and feels where the muscle is thickest, then gives you a specific unit range. You know the number and the price before anything begins.

Often a little less than the rounds that follow. The muscle is at full strength and has never been treated before, so it comes back sooner. Once you are treating on a rhythm, each result tends to hold longer than the one before it.

They do opposite jobs. Botox relaxes muscles that crease the skin, which is why it suits the forehead and crow's feet. Fillers like Restylane and the RHA family put volume back where the face has lost it. Plenty of patients use both, in one treatment plan, at different times.

There is no age that switches this on. Some people come in their late 20s when a frown line has stopped fading. Others wait until it bothers them at rest. At the consultation, Catherine looks at your lines at rest and recommends a mix of treatment and skin care to start with now.

$15.50 a unit, and $13.95 a unit for Beauty Bank members. Pricing is per unit, so your total follows the number of units each area needs. The count and the total are confirmed before treatment begins. Consultations are complimentary, with no deposit.

Cosmetically: forehead lines, frown lines and crow's feet. Botox also treats chronic migraine and underarm sweating, and those five are its FDA-approved uses. Bunny lines, a brow lift, a lip flip, a gummy smile, chin dimpling, neck bands, masseter slimming, clenching and TMJ are off-label uses, covered at your consultation.

Dosing is set to leave the treated muscle working, so your smile and your brow-raise stay. A stiff, flat forehead comes from too much product across too few points, and it takes months to wear off. Conservative first dosing is what prevents that.

Your muscles go back to moving the way they always did, and the lines return to where they were. Nothing is worse for having been treated. What you keep is the stretch of years in which that crease was not being deepened every day, so most people who stop simply pick up where they left off.

Yes. Forehead lines and crow's feet bring most male patients in, and jaw clenching and underarm sweating bring the rest. Male muscle is usually stronger, so the number goes up. Placement avoids lifting the outer brow, since that feminizes a face quickly.

Three to four months is the usual window before movement creeps back. A strong muscle shortens it, and so does a long gap between visits. At each visit Catherine asks when your last round began to fade, and times the next appointment from that.

Botox is a prescription injectable that temporarily blocks the signal telling a muscle to contract. Relax the muscle and the skin above it stops being folded, so lines from repeated movement soften. Dysport and Daxxify work the same way with slightly different behavior, and all three are kept here.

From a purified protein called botulinum toxin type A, prepared with stabilizing ingredients so that tiny, measured amounts can be injected safely. It has decades of use behind it across medical and aesthetic care. Allergies and past reactions come up at your consultation.

Each one spreads through muscle a little differently. Dysport tends to diffuse more, which suits a broad forehead. Botox stays tighter to the point where it is placed, which matters near the brow or the eye, and Daxxify is the third option. Migraine, sweating, masseter and neck work are always done with Botox.

The two vertical lines between your brows, made by the glabellar muscles pulling inward every time you concentrate. They are one of the areas Botox is FDA-approved to treat, and the one most people notice first, because the crease sits in shadow and reads as a frown you never meant to make.

First signs in a few days, and about ten days before the full effect has arrived. Day ten is the fair moment to judge it, which is why the follow-up sits around then. Each area's response to its dose sets the timing of your next visit.
